Findlay Stuns Field in London

Twenty-one-year-old Canadian Paula Findlay stunned the women’s field at the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London, running away with the win in 1:51:48. The youngster broke away on the final lap of the run from Switzerland’s Nicola Spirig and Brit Helen Jenkins, who finished second and third, respectively. It was the first-ever World Championship Series start for Findlay, who won her first ITU World Cup race in Monterrey, Mexico this April.

Frodeno, Riveros Diaz Lead New ITU Best Runner Rankings

New for 2010, the ITU has introduced segment rankings, which will reward the best swimmer, biker and runner throughout the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series. Athletes will be able to score points at each of the seven Series events, with the crown of best swimmer, biker or runner being awarded after the Grand Final in Budapest. In total, $60,000 in segment rankings bonuses will be awarded at the end of the season ($10,000 per gender, per each discipline).

Findlay, Yorke on Top in Coteau-du-Lac

Canada’s Andrew Yorke and Paula Findlay were victorious on home soil this weekend, winning the Coteau-du-Lac ITU Pan American Cup in Quebec on Saturday.

Yorke stormed to the top of the men’s podium after an emotional victory in the elite Pan American Cup race, signifying his return to top racing form after years of struggles in the sport. read more »

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to speak with graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a sports medicine/athletic training degree from the University of Alabama. Don Takes Top Prize at Hy-Vee

Great Britain’s Tim Don took home the $200,000 top prize at today’s Hy-Vee Elite Cup in Des Moines, breaking away from the field at the start of the run to win in 1:50:20. New Zealand’s Kris Gemmell finished second, four seconds back, with Aussie Courtney Atkinson rounding out the podium, finishing another four seconds behind.

Snowsill Takes Second Hy-Vee Title

Aussie Emma Snowsill won her second Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup in Des Moines, Iowa today, topping countrywoman Emma Moffatt by 16 seconds. Snowsill came into T2 over a minute behind the leaders and then posted the day’s best run split of 34:05 to take the win.

“I was angry about my position after the bike, so I used that aggression” Snowsill said. “I wanted to reel in as many girls as I could.”

Britain’s Helen Jenkins finished third, less than one second back of Moffatt, with Canadian youngster Paula Findlay finishing fourth. read more »
