In Profile: Aaron Scheidies, USA

On this week’s paratriathlon article, we will meet the USA’s 2010 World Champion in TRI 6 Category for visually impaired athletes. Aaron Scheidies is a 27 year old that has overcome more in his short life than many conquer in a lifespan. Born with a hereditary eye condition that slowly deteriorates his central vision, Aaron now has ten percent of the vision of a fully sighted person.

Whitfield Targets Cross Country

If you can’t beat them, join them. That seems to be the motivation for Canada’s Simon Whitfield this off-season as the double Olympic medallist looks to get back on terms with Alistair Brownlee who dominated the 2009 triathlon season, beating Whitfield in every encounter.

Brownlee is based in Yorkshire and is a keen advocate of cross country and fell running, which involves racing in spiked shoes over tough undulating and muddy terrain. read more »

ITU Imposes Warning on Mark Fretta

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) today announced it has officially warned Mark Fretta, a triathlete from the USA, after committing an anti-doping rule violation during an in-competition doping control test in London, United Kingdom on August 15 2009.

Fretta’s anti-doping rule violation was a result of an adverse analytical finding of ephedrine, a stimulant substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

Following the notification of the adverse analytical finding of his “A” sample, Fretta exercised his right under the ITU Doping Rules to have the “B” sample opened. read more »

2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships to be Held in Henderson, Nevada

International Triathlon Union, USA Triathlon, the city of Henderson and Lowery’s Multi-sport Races are proud to announce the 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships will be held in Henderson, Nevada, USA, on November 5, 2011.

Japan’s Ueda takes Mexico win at Huatulco ITU Triathlon World Cup

Ai Ueda took her first ITU Triathlon World Cup win of the year in Huatulco, Mexico, as the Japanese double Asian champion stretched away in the late stages of the race to cross the line in 2:12:47, ahead of Denmark’s Helle Frederiksen and Jessica Harrison from France.
